Description: Gewehr 98 bolt-action Mauser rifle. This model was designed by Paul Mauser in 1895 and was in use primarily between 1898 and 1935, especially during World War I. This rifle has a walnut stock, iron mountings including a bayonet lug, and a tangent-type notched rear sight with a blade front. Manufactured by the Spandau Arsenal in Berlin, Germany. The rifle is a World War I souvenir retrieved by Colonel George Leach of the 151st Field Artillery.
