Currency from Mineral Point, Wisconsin

Description Currency issued in Mineral Point, Wisconsin, June 1, 1838. Denomination of twenty (20) dollars. It reads, in part, "The MINERAL POINT Bank Will pay TWENTY DOLLARS to [E. Walsh] or Bearer" and "Payable 1st December 1840". Undersigned by the bank's cashier and president. Engraved by Rawdon, Wright & Hatch in New York. Mineral Point Bank was chartered in 1838, one of the first three banks in the territory of Wisconsin, all of which failed shortly thereafter.
