Titles: Beaded pincushion (Supplied title)

Description: A pin cushion consisting of dark purple velvet stuffed with sawdust in a scalloped rectangular shape, covered in raised clear, green, red, gold and blue glass beads in the shape of a central bird grasping a branch, circa the 1870s. Objects of this type were manufactured by Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) women in the Niagara Falls area for sale to Euro-American tourists during the second half of the 19th century. This piece was apparently collected from Dakota people, but was not manufactured by them. Collected in Beaver Falls, Minnesota.
