Description: Connecticut Arms Hammond "Bulldog" single shot .44 rimfire caliber derringer pistol in its original box with six cartridges. The pistol was used by James Madison Bowler, a Renville County farmer elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1877. The Bulldog pistol was Connecticut Arms's most sucessful firearm and the pistol could fire pistol or rifle cartridges equally. The pistol has an octagonal iron barrel and a spur trigger; made by the Connecticut Arms and Manufacturing Company in Naubuc, Connecticut, which went out of business in 1890.
