Description: Short length of hemp rope, a fragment of the execution rope used on March 19, 1898, in the hanging death of John Moshik at the Minneapolis City Hall in Minnesota. Moshik had been convicted of murdering John C. Lemke in a robbery at Camden Place North in Minneapolis on October 22, 1897. He was the last person to be executed in Hennepin County. The last execution in Minnesota took place in 1906 and the death penalty was removed from state criminal law in 1911.
