Description: Pair of Army infantry major's epaulets. Each consist of a silver lace strap and a silvered copper crescent, from which is suspended a fringe of silvered wire lace. Affixed within the crescent is a gilded numeral "5". The underside of the crescent retains is original cotton padding. Worn by Lieutenant Nathan Clark, who served at Fort Snelling, Minnesota, from 1819 to 1827.
