Titles: US Army officer's sword and scabbard used by Nathan Clark (Supplied title)

Description: United States Army general and staff officer's Model 1832 sword (.A) and scabbard (.B). The sword has a straight double-edge blade and is etched on both sides with drapery, an eagle, "US" within a wreath, and on the obverse, an urn and a scroll marked "N.P. Ames / Cutler / Springfield". The gilded brass hilt has a asymmetrical heart-shape counterguard that has a beaded panel motif along its forward edge. The wood grips are covered with silver incised to resemble wire wrapping. The black leather scabbard is missing the lower portion, but the gilded and incised brass throat and middle band remain. Used by Lieutenant Nathan Clark, who served at Fort Snelling, Minnesota, from 1819 to 1827.
