Dakota quillwork ornamental hairpin

Description A Dakota ornamental wood hairpin shaped like a stiletto is tapered overall and has a pointed end, circa the early 20th century or earlier. Its length is wrapped with dyed quills firmly woven into repeating symmetrical crosses and checker patterns. A long lock of dark hair, possibly horse, is wrapped with sinew to the blunt end of the pin.
