Titles: Confederate soldier's Bible (Supplied title)

Description: Cloth-bound Bible given to Dr. Albert Enos Higbee of the 12th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment, Company B, by Fred C. Cook. Cook's father found the bible on the body of Frank A. Gassett, a Private with the 6th Georgia Regiment, after the battle of Antietam (September 17, 1862). An accompanying newspaper clipping from the St. Paul Globe gives an embellished description of the discovery. Written on the page following the clipping is: "F. A. Gassett / Butler, Georgia / or Sidertown" and, on the opposite page, "Direct your letter / to [F] Wm Gassett / Wm Gassett / Sadatown / Ga / [...]". Written on the Bible's fly leaf is: "June 4th, 1862 / God of Mercy / Rember us in this day of truble" and opposite it, "A Testament / April / 27th 1862 / F A. Gassett / Book / 1862" and, upside down, "New Kint Co. / May 18th 1862".
