Description: BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Debbie Miller, head of the research for the MHS Publications and Research Department since 1983, was born in St. Louis, Missouri, December 21, 1948. She graduated summa cum laude from Macalester College in Saint Paul with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, and obtained a master's degree in Scandinavian Studies in 1975 from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. She began working at the Society in 1976, and became Research Supervisor in 1983. Her responsibilities include directing research projects, administering research grants program, and serving as consultant for MHS Press, Society staff, scholars, journalists, and the public. She served as project director for 20th-Century Minnesota Radicalism Project and Women's History Research and Grant Project. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: How she began at MHS and in the research department; her work as research assistant, editor and on Minnesota History magazine; department changes conceived by June Holmquist and expanding focus of the research department. Research grants, article grants, and mini-grants. History of grant monies programs.
