Minnesota Photographers Oral History Project: Interview with Jerome Liebling
BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Born in 1924, New York City. Came to Minnesota in 1949 as first fine art photography teacher at University of Minnesota. Taught there 1949-1969. Worked closely with Allen Downs on several films. Jerome worked on several photography projects on his own, including South Saint Paul stockyards, Red Lake, Green Giant in Le Sueur, and Minneapolis flour milling. He wa also a free lance photographer, specializing in photographing politicians and political life in Minneapolis. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: Leibling's career in Minnesota, comparison of art photography to free lance photography, Twin Cities' acceptance and fostering of art photography.
