Description: BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Arnold Maring grew up in Nansen Valley. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: Maring talked of the history of the valley, including the cheese factory, the kinds of cheese made and the other cheeses made by valley residents. He spoke of using both Norwegian and English as a child and of having people in Norway refer to his Norwegian, when he visited the country, as "Minnesota Norwegian." He talked at length of the farming practices in the valley and of the dairy industry. He gave information about the valley orchestra, about being confirmed in Norwegian and about the layout and use of the various areas on a farm. He also talked about the use of woodlots and springs in the area.
