Description BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Bobbie Stolp graduated from the Ancker School of Nursing in 1971, and was still working as a nurse at the time of the interview. She was an active member in the Ancker Alumni Association and served as the final president. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: Interest in nursing, why chose Ancker School of Nursing, educational preparation. First class admit men and a married older woman. Dorm life and policies, school and study schedule, clinicals, hands-on time with patients, curriculum, changes from previous years, working summers, changes in nursing programs. School traditions - initiation, uniforms, dress code, Big Sister/Little Sister program, Senior Rip Day, caps, Capping Ceremony, father-daughter banquet, choral group, Christmas Bazaar, Miss Ancker crowning, graduation, pins. Nursing as a career choice, add on education program from Augsburg, CLEP credit. Work under John Perry, Room Ten, peritoneal lavage, type of patients seen at a public hospital, rotations, working at St. Paul-Ramsey, the hospital that replaced the Ancker facility, changes in food service policy and students reaction. Impressions of Minna Froehing, Otto Janke, Charlie Miller, Millard Ruether, renowned doctors - John Perry, Tom Comfort, Drs. Boise - father and son, Joyce Michaelson. Changes in training for nurses, specialization in medical system, availability of continuing education, increasing specialization among physicians. Alumni Association - activities, value of organization, disbandment. Impact of nursing on her life, closure of Ancker School of Nursing.
