Description BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Richard and James Thelen were born and educated in Minnesota. Richard worked as a miller and James worked as a baker in different family owned businesses. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: Early life, education, small town life, Albany Roller Mills - bartering, milling processes, machines, work flow, man power, wartime requirements, changes over time for small milling concerns, feed business, accounting, advertising, customer relations, distribution area, helping out as children; career choices; anecdotes. COMMENTS ON INTERVIEWS: The video interview contains individual interviews with Richard and James Thelen, and a tour of the Albany Roller Mills. A video log is available in the Oral History Office. The interview segments are transcribed. An unbound transcript of the conversation and reminiscences between the Thelens as they tour the mill is also available in the Oral History Office. The May 22, 2001 interview was recorded on audiotape only.
