Her grandfather was a horse trader who moved to Fergus Falls with his wife, followed by other family members. In the late 1970s the family moved to Minneapolis. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: How their family came to be in Fergus Falls; jobs available; work as aide and nurse; father’s work as horse trader; churches: Baptist, Seventh-day Adventist, Catholic; staying behind when other blacks moved on; church events; Scandinavian country; personal experiences as one of only a few blacks in the area; experiences with the white community; trips to Twin Cities; move to Twin Cities in 1979; segregation in Fergus Falls; family history; churches attended: Baptist, Methodist and Covenant; high school socializing opportunities; social activities at home; internal and external pressures to stay separate; family members' experiences in both white and black army units.
