Description BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Sherm Booen started, produced and hosted the television show "World of Aviation". He also published the magazine Minnesota Flyer. Booen began his aviation career in the early 1930s. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: Booen's early life including his time at Hamline University and his interests in aviation and radio. His first airplane ride. Flying lessons with Joe Newman in 1932 and the first solo flight. Types of airplanes he flew. Working with ham radio and the early radio equipment. Anecdotes about whom he talked with on ham radio. Starting early radio stations in Albert Lea and Dubuque. His time in the service during World War II, which includes work on early electronics. His career at WDGY radio after the war. His time in the service during the Korean conflict. Starting the televison show "World of Aviation" in 1953 and its continued run for almost 30 years. Memories of the show including guests like Arthur Godfrey, Eddie Rickenbacher, Jimmy Doolittle, and visits to the Paris Air Show. Publishing Minnesota Flyer and the financial problems that ensued. Family involvement in the publication. Anecdote about Noel Wein which shows what a great aviation state Minnesota is. Booen's work with the Minnesota Aviation Trade Association. The association's role with the governing authorities in Minnesota. Booen's work as an Master of Ceremonies at various aviation functions and some anecdotes about the shows.
