After he retired from farming, Smith worked in the park for 19 years. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: Putting in the sewer lines at Squaw Lake Camp; keeping the camp clean, custodial work at the camp; the loss of wild game in the park over the years; planting pines versus preserving the deer herd; improvements in toilets and garbage pick-up over the years; the ice operation on Lake Itasca; the selling of firewood in the park; heavy use of the park and shoreline erosion; park versus wildlife preserve issues.
