Itasca State Park Oral History Project: Interview with Elizabeth and George Smith
BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: George Smith is Ojibwe and grew up near Itasca State Park. Elizabeth Smith was employed in the Wegmanns' home and store. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: The general topic was their experiences working in and around the park. George shared personal background, talked about collecting pulpwood near the park and about "Iron Spring". Elizabeth shared personal information; her initial contact with the park; working at Wegmann's; Mrs. Wegmann; her duties; reason for leaving; Lange store and post office; duties; contact with people in the park; general reflections. COMMENTS ON INTERVIEW: George Smith's interview is about five minutes. Elizabeth Smith's interview fills the remaining time.
