9th Minnesota Infantry pass for Colonel Alexander Wilkin, 1864
Description Rectangular paper pass reads, in part, "HEAD-QUARTERS DISTRICT OF MEMPHIS, / Memphis, Tenn, 22 June 1864. / Patrols will pass Col Wilkin / 9" Minn Infty / through the city for three (3) days. / By Order of Brig. Gen'l R. P. BUCKLAND." Colonel Alexander Wilkin was killed the following month in the Battle of Tupelo, Mississippi. Wilkin was the highest ranking officer from Minnesota to die in the war.
