Titles: 1st Minnesota national battle flag (Supplied title)
Description: A national battle flag of the 1st Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment used in the Civil War. The flag consists of one layer of silk with thirteen red and white stripes and a blue canton decorated with a gold leaf eagle holding a banner inscribed "MAY GOD PROTECT THE RIGHT", enclosed in a circle of thirty-four stars. The flag was purchased by the ladies of Wabasha and Lake City and presented to Company I of the 1st Minnesota Regiment in May of 1861 before the regiment left Minnesota for Washington, D.C. This flag is presumably the second national color carried by the regiment. Accompanied by a cord and tassel. See also flag staff 2007.84.5.B.
