Joe Campbell's Red Wing boots and box
Description Custom made Irish Setter model Red Wing brand boots and box. The boots were worn by Joe Campbell, an anti-nuclear activist from the Prairie Island Indian Community of Mdewakanton Dakota. The boots are shown with the laces loosely threaded, as Campbell preferred to wear them. The boots were part of Campbell's "uniform," worn on most public or official occasions. See the rest of Campbell's outfit (2009.140.1.A-G); the pieces were made for or given to Campbell and so have special significance.
