St. Anthony Pottery (aka John C. Malchow Pottery) ca.1896. The people in the photo (l-r): little girl unknown, man unknown, man unknown (blacksmith), Mr. Swan, Louis Malchow Jr. (little boy), Mike McNamara*, Mr. White & Mrs. White (lived across the street), Mrs. Louis Malchow (Elizabeth A. Sombke, 1869-1925), Louis Malchow Sr. (1858-1929), Geneva Malchow-Elsner (little girl, 1892-1949), Bill Harris*, "Nippy" (favorite dog in front). *=employees, and the family home is on the far right. The pottery probably started with limited production in the mid-1860s, became fully established by 1870. Produced low fire or redware flower pots, garden edging, ornaments and urns until about 1897. Any info or documentation on the pottery or related Malchow, Kobs, Weber, Oberlies, Sombke, Rahmel families please contact.
