Description: BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Joan began advertising in 1985 in Minnesota Women's Press, and later in the Minnesota Women's Press Directory. At around the same time, she was starting her own company in financial investments. She had advertised for the previous fifteen years, choosing MWP as her only source for newspaper advertising. She served on the Advisory Board for one year, and was a consultant and investment advisor for MWP on many occasions. She was awarded the "Feminist Finds" award for financial information services on two occasions. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: Description of early advertising process at MWP; perception of advertising advantages and disadvantages; targeted market through MWP advertising; description of Feminist Finds awards; other stories of early days at MWP; description of early cash problems at MWP, and other financial decisions; MWP as a feminist business.
