Minnesota Psychiatry in the Mid-to-Late Twentieth Century Oral History Project: Interview with William Hausman, M.D.
Transcript
Description Dr. Hausman was one of the few psychiatrists in both of the interview groups not from the Midwest: he was born and raised in New York City. He was chair of the department of psychiatry at the University of Minnesota at the time of the interview. He had a twenty-year career in US Army psychiatry prior to coming to take the chairmanship in 1969 - admittedly not with an academic background. He presided in the department during a tumultuous period, with wrangling between the psychology and psychiatric leadership leading to much divisiveness.
