Description: Wall hanging titled "Bavarian Man", composed of a coarse linen background with light and dark green cotton borders and a central figure appliqued and embroidered using wool felt, cotton, and leather. The central figure, a man in late eighteenth-century clothing, wears breeches, a cutaway coat, and tricorn hat and carries a walking stick. Four mounting loops on the back of the textile allow it to be suspended. A label on the back notes that the textile sold for 75 cents. The textile was created as a part of the WPA (Works Progress Administration) Handicraft Project and was discovered in a desk at Mounds Park School in Saint Paul, Minnesota, in 1954.
