Titles: Surly Bill pint glass (Supplied title)

Description: Pint glass produced by craft brewery Surly Brewing Company of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, following the passage of the "Surly Bill" in 2011, which allowed breweries to apply for a license to distribute their beer for retail sale and sell on the brewery's premises. The front has an opaque white printed image of the Minnesota State Capitol building behind a hand holding a full Surly pint glass encircled by text that reads, "POWER OF THE PINT * With your help, we changed the law. *" The back of the glass commemorates efforts to pass the "Surly Bill" and thanks parties who aided in the bill's passage. See also Surly Brewing Company beer cans ID numbers 2009.110.1 and 2009.142.6.

Notes

  • Full text from back of glass: "AN IDEA, A CHALLENGE, AND A CHANGE. / To build a Destination Brewery, where we could sell pints of our own beer, we needed to change a 78-year old law. A lot of people didn't think it could be done, they said we couldn't get enough support. But they didn't know the power of Surly Nation. We spread our word, gathered support, and made our voices heard. And on May 24, 2011, the "Surly Bill" was signed into law. / THE POWER OF THE PEOPLE LED TO THE POWER OF THE PINT. / Special thanks to: Sen. Linda Scheid, Rep. Jenifer Loon, Cook Girard Associates, One Simple Plan, fellow brewers, state legislators, our supporters, and, of course, Surly Nation."
