US Army uniform frock coat

| Description | United States Army 1851 pattern infantry enlisted man's blue wool "nine-button" frock coat. The coat was worn by First Sergeant Mathew Marvin of the 1st Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment, Company K. Marvin was mustered into the regiment on April 29, 1861 and was wounded three times; at Bull Run, Harrison's Landing, and Gettysburg, before being mustered out on May 5, 1864. The coat has pointed cuffs, die-stamped, gilt-brass, "eagle-I" Infantry buttons, a low standing band collar, and pockets sewn to the liner on each side with two additional pockets inside the rear skirt. |
