Description: Service insignia for a United States Army Officer's Modal 1858 uniform hat worn by William H. Dike during the Civil War. Dike was elected Captain of Company G of the 1st Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment and when the regiment was mustered on April 29, 1861, he was appointed to the rank of major. After serving at the First Battle of Bull Run in July, Dike resigned his commission on October 22, 1861, and returned to Faribault, Minnesota. See also hat insignia, ID Number 74.72.2.
