Description: Two-piece wedding dress worn by Abby Newell at her wedding to Arthur H. Mills held at Fort Snelling on October 24, 1857. Both jacket and dress are of blue taffeta with black brocade trim. The jacket (.A) has horizontal bands of black brocade across the front and black and brown fringes along the waist and cuffs. Five blue silk flower shaped buttons fringed with black beads and blue silk balls adorn the front, with two on each sleeve. The skirt (.B) is adorned with black brocade in a floral design. Hand sewn and fully lined.
