Not Waiting for a Cure Oral History Project: Interview with Agnes Leitheiser
BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Agnes Leitheiser is deputy director of the division of the Minnesota Department of Health that focuses on prevention and control of diseases, including AIDS. Her activism grew from a nursing background, and she has a long history of advocating on behalf of her profession. Leitheiser was a member of the state's earliest efforts to create a response to the AIDS epidemic and coordinated efforts through local health agencies. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: She discusses the changes she has seen in the state government's response to AIDS and the increasing cooperation between activist communities and bureaucracy.
