Description |
St. Paul Winter Carnival souvenir medallion. The front features the 1887 Ice Palace. The text on the front reads, "ST. PAUL ICE PALACE & WINTER CARNIVAL / 1887". The back features five winter scenes and four symbols of winter sports. Clockwise from the top, the first winter scene depicts a couple ice skating, the second scene depicts four people snowshoeing, the third scene is people curling, the fourth scene depicts people tobogganing, and the fifth scene, in the center of the medallion, is a landscape. Clockwise from the top right, the first symbol is two crossed toboggans, the second symbol is a pair of ice skates, the third symbol is two crossed curling brooms above a curling stone, and the fourth symbol is a pair of snowshoes. The text on the back reads, "CITY OF ST. PAUL / INCORPORATED MARCH 4 1854". Manufacturer unknown, 1887. |

I can only imagine what the value of this is! The work that was involved in creating a medallion of this level back in those days must have been incredibly time consuming.
