BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: At the time of this interview, David Swarthout had been providing HIV counseling services to newly diagnosed people for more than eight years through the Hennepin County Red Door Clinic. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: A former Jesuit monk, Swarthout discusses the early discrimination against people with HIV in Minnesota. He discusses his efforts to provide a hopeful alternative to overwhelmingly negative messages in the media and how he helps people adjust to life with HIV infection. |
