Description BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Dennis Miller grew up in Dallas, Texas in the 1950s and 1960s. His father was a blue collar labor worker for the airline industry and his mother was an office worker. Miller came to the University of Minnesota as a student in the fall 1969. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: Miller discusses his coming out, his development of gay consciousness, political behavior and sexual expression. He talks about his involvement with student government groups while a student at the University of Minnesota and relates stories of people such as Jack Baker, an openly gay University student who ran for student body president. Miller talks generally about the involvement of gays in the Twin Cities with the DFL and Socialist political parties. He also tells of his involvement in the repeal of the St. Paul Human Rights amendment in 1978 and bathhouse raids by Minneapolis Police. Finally, Miller describes some of the specific entertainment spots and bars where gays frequented and also the development of the Loring Park area and the impact of AIDS on the community.
