Description BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Mrs. Bell was born December 6, 1902 in Greenville, Texas and Mr. Bell was born July 3, 1901 in Mineola, Texas. Her parents were Elizabeth (Brown) Hurdle (Greenville, Texas, February 1874) and Willie Clay Hurdle (Greenville, Texas, February 1869). His parents were Cornelia Lucinda (Davis) Bell (Mineola, Texas, March 26, 1883) and Eddie Bell (Mineola, Texas, April 1881). SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: Mr. and Mrs. Bell moved from Texas to Duluth in 1923 and still lived there at the time of the interview. Mr. Bell was an employee of the United States Steel Corporation for 40 years. The Bells lived for a while in Gary, a suburb of Duluth. The interview centered about the Bells' life in Duluth, the growth and development of the black community and discrimination.
