Minnesota Black History Project: Interview with Maceo Simmons
BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Mr. Simmons was born in Greensboro, Georgia on June 2, 1901. He came to St. Paul in 1919 and joined the Memorial Baptist Church (located at Fuller and Rice Streets) that year. He was a charter member (in 1922) of the St. Paul Baptist Church, which became the Mount Olivet Baptist Church. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: Mr. Simmons discusses the history and growth of the Mount Olivet Church and its relationship to the black community of St. Paul.
