Minnesota Women's Press, Inc. Oral History Project: Interview with Rebecca Coleman
BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Becky worked at the Minnesota Women's Press, Inc. (MWP) from 1985 to 1992. She was an assistant editor to 1989, and was on the sales staff until 1991. She was also involved in early production and design, and organized the first travel group for MWP. Becky has a master's degree in Journalism from the University of Iowa. Before working at MWP, she worked at suburban and community newspapers, primarily as an editor/reporter/photographer. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: Description of early production methods; Georgia O'Keefe art trip to Chicago; differences between suburban/community newspapers and Minnesota Women's Press; job flexibility and sharing; hierarchy and decision making; effects of move to new building; editorial and advertising challenges; feminism and MWP; special sections and inserts in newspaper; sports coverage; MWP values; impact of MWP.
