Titles 2nd Minnesota national battle flag
Description This national battle flag, with cord and tassels, of the 2nd Minnesota Infantry consists of one layer of silk with 13 alternating red and white stripes and a blue canton resting on the eighth stripe from the top. The canton is decorated with an unknown amount of five-pointed stars, applied with silver leaf outlined in grey paint. The fifth stripe from the top is inscribed "MILL SPRING, JANY. 19TH 1862." The seventh stripe from the top is inscribed "2ND REGT. MINN. VOL." The ninth stripe from the top is inscribed "PRESENTED IN BEHALF OF LOYAL LADIES OF LOUISVILLE." The flag was made by Hugh Wilkins, in Louisville, Kentucky, presented to the regiment February 1862, sent to Minnesota May 1862, and requested back by the regiment April 1863.
