    Correction: the congregations was established in Historic St. Anthony Falls Territory, MN 1860; older than Minneapolis that was established in 1867 and merged with St. Anthony Falls in 1872. However the establishment of the congregation, occurred following than the State of Minnesota—(established in 1858), and the Minnesota Territory— (established in 1849)

    St.James (AKA Mother St. James) AME church is the oldest Black church (congregation)in the state of Minnesota. Mother St. James is also, the Oldest AME church in the Region (including Iowa, Wisconsin, the Dakotas, and Canada. Historic Mother St. James was established in 1863, in the Historic St. Anthony Falls area. Mother St. James is older than the city of Minneapolis, and older than the state of MN.
