Description BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Belen Andrada was born in Butuan, in the southern Philippines. After World War II Belen finished college with a bachelor's degree in math from Santo Tomas in Manila. She came to the U.S. as a master's degree student at the University of Chicago. After marrying she moved to Minnesota and worked in area high schools. She continues to be active in the Filipino community. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: Parents; growing up; World War II; Japanese occupation of the Philippines; college; immigrating; Filipino community in the 1950s in Minnesota; Filipino since the 1950’s in Minnesota; family; discrimination against Filipinos; community involvement.
