Physical Effects
Volunteers who participated in the Starvation Study had their daily food intake gradually restricted, which mimicked the food shortages experienced in war-torn Europe. As their food was increasingly limited, the volunteers participated in a variety of tests to measure the effect food deprivation had on their physical abilities. As the volunteers went through the semi-starvation period of the experiment, the reduced diet dramatically affected their physical state. Think about the following as you look through the images:
- How did the semi-starvation diet effect the participants physically?
- What tests were the participants put through? What were the scientists looking for?
