Minnesota's Soldiers

Minnesota was the first state to officially offer troops to fight in the Union army. By the end of the war approx. 25,000 Minnesotans served in the military, either as volunteers or draftees. Minnesota’s soldiers fought in many pivotal battles, and marched thousands of miles during their years of service.
