Certificate of merit awarded to Lydia Niff for her superior scholarship and deportment at St. Paul, Minnesota's Washington School during the 1863 fall term (September 14 - December 18). The certificate is signed by Niff's teacher, Mary S. Crainsie, and bears the 1856 seal of the Board of Education of the City of St. Paul as well as the Minnesota state and United States seals.
