Mr. Clifford Sommer was born May 25, 1908, in Minneapolis. He grew up in Rush City and began his banking career at the Rush City State Bank, where his father worked. Soon afterward he moved to Minneapolis where he worked for Midland Bank. Sommer graduated from the University of Minnesota, attended the Minnesota College of Law for two years, and graduated from the Stonier School of Banking at Rutger's University. He moved to Owatonna in 1955 to become president of Security State Bank & Trust Co. He was a state senator from 1967 to 1970. In 1971, just before retirement from Northwest Bancorporation, he and his wife moved back to Minneapolis. Sommer served on the Minneapolis Board of Park Commissioners (1953-55) and was a member of the American Legion and many other community organizations. He was elected president of the American Bankers Association in 1970 and previously served as vice president.

In this series of interviews Sommer primarily discusses his career in banking and banking in general.
