Titles: Dakota beaded and quillwork knife sheath (Supplied title)

Description: Dakota knife sheath made of brain tanned hide sewn with sinew and beaded at the top in a diamond pattern. Attached to the top opening are tassels decorated with quillwork and metal cones, and there is a line of metal cones on the sheath. Collected by Chesley Billing Tirrell of the 1st Minnesota Regiment, Company C, during the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862.
