Description: United States Army officer's Model 1850 saber (.A) and scabbard (.B) made by William H. Horstmann & Sons of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The single-edge blade has two fullers and is etched with foliate and military scroll images. The cast brass hilt is of the half-basket form with two obverse branches, the spaces filled with a pierced design of leaves and flowers and the letters "US". The grips are wrapped with fishskin and bound with brass wire. The iron scabbard has a brass throat, two suspension bands, and an asymmetrical drag.
