Not Waiting for a Cure Oral History Project: Interview with Kiran Belani M.D.
BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Kiran Belani, M.D., is a pediatrician practicing in Minneapolis who has treated many of the state's children living with HIV and AIDS, including Nicholas Hawkins, the son of Cindy Hawkins, whose narration is part of this oral history project. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: Belani talks about the emergence of HIV as a disease among her young patients, and about her efforts to make their lives as normal as possible. She addresses her Hindu faith and its role in her response to the death of children. She also discusses her concerns for surviving parents of children with AIDS and for orphaned children of parents with AIDS.
